A WORKED EXAMPLE · UNIT 2 OF 6

One lesson, posted in front of you.

This is how a lesson runs on our courses, using a real one: Debits, credits and T-accounts, unit 2 of Double Entry from a Blank Page. Nothing here is a highlight reel. It is the ordinary routine you would follow for every unit.

YOUR TURN · PAUSED

4 May — You buy printer paper for £60 and pay for it straight from the business bank account. Which account is debited, which is credited, and by how much?

Write it down first: account, side, amount. Then open the answer.

Stationery is an expense, and expenses increase on the debit side. Money leaves the bank, so the bank account is credited. Same amount on each side: the entry balances.

POSTING SEQUENCE

Four steps, every lesson

The routine is the same in all 9 lessons of this unit, and in every other course on the shelves. It is slow on purpose: the point is that the entry comes from your hand, not from the screen.

  1. Watch

A transaction is posted on screen, both sides, with the reason for each side said out loud. The first few in a unit are done for you so you can see the pattern.

  2. Pause and post it yourself

When the next transaction appears, pause the video. Write the entry on paper or in your own spreadsheet: which account, which side, how much.

  3. Check your entries against the worked answer

Press play. The entry is posted on screen and explained line by line. If yours differs, rewind: the reason is usually in the last minute you watched.

  4. The end-of-unit question

Each unit closes with a question that pulls its lessons together. Try it in full, then watch the worked answer before moving on.

Honest notes

There is no tutor watching your work and nobody marks it. You check yourself against the answer, which is always worked on screen in full, with the reasoning. If you want someone to tell you whether you are right, the answer on screen is that someone.

Questions about a course or your order still reach a person, through the chat or by email.
